Coppelia designer Kirsty Bannerman has a knack for collaboration and commercial success. She co-founded Long Street boutique mememe with Doreen Southwood before moving onto Mungo & Jemima with Marian Park-Ross of Good Clothing. Her clothing is exceedingly wearable and mostly timeless, ignoring the fallibility of fleeting trends.
With strong, masculine lines battling an innate femininity and an almost aggressive focus on construction, the designs of Suzaan Heyns are some of the most exciting on our South African catwalks. Season after season, I find her shows to be some of the most progressive in every respect.
At Cape Town Fashion Week 2009, her origami inspired collection received great critical acclaim and I expect this year to be no different.
